As a next-generation collection management solution (CMS), Argus software was developed to help museums (of any size) create and maintain a cultural community. Since many people are not capable of attending gallery openings, visiting every exhibition and getting to know the works of every new artist in their area, a demand for accessible online collections is growing. To offer a wider audience access to online viewings Argus provides art galleries with a set of features for easy setup and curation of digital exhibitions.
The process of digitizing and sharing art collections is straightforward through their web-based management solution streamlines. Argus also allows you to expand your reach to visitors by engaging with potential clients and art collectors online.
Streamline digital collections management provides art gallery owners and collectors with a system that organizes and displays artifacts, and handles loans, payments exhibitions and other related files and processes.
Such a customized automated system increases the efficiency of workflow for you and your team: an intuitive user interface features data syncing and quick mobile data entry which saves time on manual tasks.
Another feature of Argus is that you can easily expand access to your collections. A public portal web allows you to highlight specific exhibitions for either a wider audience or limit it to invite-only viewers. There you can also access valuable statistical insights, including reporting, sales, data integration and artists’ performance.

What our experts think
Pros:
Argus, with its intuitive interface, makes artifact cataloguing and displaying easy to customize and adjust based on several artworks and the size of your art gallery. Structure and organize your collections to captivate viewers and potential buyers. You can link unlimited related images, objects, loans, invoices, and multimedia files to specific artworks due to the flexibility of this software.
Besides trusting your data to Argus (secure hosting, TSL encryption, SOC2 certification and more), you can also rely on their customer service support. In-house experts can guide you through any technical issue you might have when setting up an exhibition or dealing with clients. “The product support team is excellent and extremely responsive,” said one satisfied user, “two of the biggest draws for our institution were the available customization, and the ability to work from any device with an internet connection. Our institution has a lot of unique needs that we were able to work with the Argus team to see that they could be met.”
Another user added, “For our use, we have been able to take advantage of the backend customization of the program. We have created new templates and adjusted existing ones to better suit the needs of a large institution with an active collection and exhibition plan. For more complex needs, we can contract their R&D team to develop new functionality as well. Overall, this is a powerful tool we use daily for managing a large collection.”
Cons:
One minor issue that a user of Argus noted is using the site on mobile you might face some technical difficulties. “There is some functionality and linking that could be improved. Data entry directly into the interface is tedious when dealing with high volumes of data, and there are some things which can’t be imported effectively or easily.”
You might have to deal with inconsistency when trying to build new templates, as per another user. “The difference between us creating something in-house vs something this is hard coded by the designers on the back end.” However, when they submit those to R&D for tweaking and enhancement in future, the support team is easy to communicate with and helps to solve it efficiently.
It might sound like a minor issue, yet some users of Argus found that new reports cannot be pre-tested in Report Writer for functionality and spacing. “It would be nice to have the option to click on an object image for an even larger view, as sometimes the primary record image is a little too small for research work,” said one of them.
